Hullo I’m Marie. Going back to Personal Training in 2026 is divine. This year marks my 20th year in the fitness industry and it’s how I started my career way back when.

My love and life in fitness started way before though – when my mum would drag me along to aerobics classes back-in-the-day (and when creche and caring about your kids whereabouts  was totally not a thing) and I would sit on the sidelines and watch. So it seemed logic/boredom would dictate that as soon as I was old enough I would join her in classes.

…and I haven’t known a life without fitness since.

Over my 20 year (officially qualified) career I have ticked off everything on the Fitness Industry Bingo Card: I’ve been a personal trainer, taught group fitness, bootcamps, CrossFit, Pilates, managed fitness studios and later owned them. I’ve been a student of yoga, kettlebells, weightlifting and am still hungry for more. Speaking of hungry, I was also a bodybuilder.

I have authored a book (12 hours in the life of a fitness professional – because I’m too tired for the other 12), written lifestyle and fitness content for website Mamamia and…am a stand-up comedian.

That last one isn’t related to fitness…but apparently laughing burns calories  Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

Why The Set Collective? Combining my life-long love of sets in the gym and obsession with performing comedy sets. Same same but different, one is just sweatier than the other. But which one? Depends on the day…
